On 3^rd of May 2008, in occasion of Europe’s Day (9^th of May) a combined cycling event took place in Peja.

Cycling event is organized through by joint effort of UN-HABITAT MuSPP, ECLO (European Commission Liaison Office), Municipality of Peja, cycling club Peja and SSF (Sports Sans Frontiere/NGO). Cycling event on 3^rd of May was divided in two parts.

First part was dedicated to the promotion of city cycling as a very efficient transport mean especially for the city as Peja is. In overall this was good opportunity to bring together ambitions of our programme to elaborate more profoundly city cycling network as a part of Municipal Mobility Policy and on the other side the idea of Eurpoe’s Week for cycling as an instrument for social inclusion and cohesion.

The second part of the event was the competition between cycling teams from elementary schools. The competition was about basic skills of cycling, where around 30 participants competed in a race. For organizing of this part, Cycling Club “Peja” had installed requisites in the city center. Three participants have been rewarded, while rewards were sponsored by UN-HABITAT MuSPP. First place was rewarded with one bicycle, second with sports cloths and the third one with a pair of sports shoes. Rewards have been handed over to the participants by Peja Mayor Mr. Ali  Berisha, Mr. Renzo Davidi and Mr. Joachim Bergerhoff.

After the handover of rewards, event was closed and the city center again reopened for vehicles.

During the event Kosovo Police Service provided an excellent support by escorting the group and organizing traffic during the city ride. Another acknowledgment in this regard goes also for local juice production enterprise “Bibita” that hosted all participants with drinks as on the rest point in Vitomirica as for the party in the city center.
