For the occasion of European Heritage Days UN-HABITAT’s Municipal Spatial Planning Programme, in cooperation with Cultural Heritage without Borders, European Commission and municipalities of Junik, Gjakova, Rahovec as well as community of Hoqa e Madhe/ Velika Hoqa, organized cycling tour named as “Tour de Culture 2009”. This event brought together more than 200 participants cycling along a route of 55 km through the south west of Kosovo. Besides cyclists, in the tour were also participants who completed the tour running.

The main idea of the tour was to promote non-motorized transport as healthy way of transportation and to visit cultural heritage and natural sites of Kosovo.

The tour followed less busy roads, by starting in Junik, as centre of cultural activities, continuing to Gjakovë/Djakovica and Rahovec/Orahovac, while the activity ended in Hoqë e Madhe/Velika Hoqa. Different historic monuments and sites were visited by participants and they were hosted by the local community.

The Culture Tour is an annual event.  It is growing with each year and is becoming a Kosovo-wide popular event.
