The Institute for Spatial Planning (ISP) within the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning made a presentation on the importance of The Geographical Information System (GIS) in the planning process, in the municipality of Junik on 28th of January. Newly elected municipal officers from different departments in the municipality of Junik, and MuSPP officers attended the workshop focused on the process of collecting data and creating a GIS database. This topic is raised at the time when the municipality of Junik is in the process of drafting Municipal Development Plan with the support of the MuSPP, CHwB and the ISP.

GIS expert Ismail Gagica, stated that the preparation of active and flexible data-base with geo-reference would make a big difference for the preparation of planning documents, because plans would be more dynamic, and their update in the future would be more efficient.

The importance of building capacities in this field was raised in this meeting by the municipal officers who were very interested to be trained in the field of GIS database.
