Mirusha River in Gjilan/Gnjilane – similar to Lushta River in Mitrovica

Planners, engineers, civil society organizations, the school traffic engineering task force and Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme (MuSPP) representatives from the Mitrovica municipality were all involved in a visit to the Gjilan/Gnjilane Municipality. The purpose of this visit was to see the implementation of a roundabout in the city centre crossroad, as well as the rehabilitation and upgrading of the Mirusha River in Gjilan/Gnjilane, a project similar to the Lushta River in Mitrovica. The meeting was aimed at stimulating a participatory planning process while also analyzing a comparable situation and city for discussions with the municipal counterparts. 

The Lushta River green corridor project will be co-financed by the Municipality of Mitrovica and the Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme (MuSPP). This meeting was a favorable moment to exchange ideas with municipal professionals who have already analyzed, implemented and developed solutions similar to Lushta. Representatives of the Directorate of Public Services in Gjilan/Gnjilane; Enver Biçku and Asllan Mustafa presented on the existing situation of road infrastructure, road additional parameters, conflicting points of circulation, and type of vehicles that move through this area. The end of the presentation concluded with the recommendation to transform the classic crossroad into a roundabout.

The purpose of the meeting allowed Mitrovica team to learn from the experiences in Gjilan/Gnjilane, to potentially apply the lessons learned to the situation in Mitrovica. In this regard Ilir Gjinolli from Urban Plus (the company that drafted a project for Mirusha River) delivered a presentation on Urb-Architectonic project ideas for the regulation of the Mirusha River in Gjilan/Gnjilane. The meeting concluded with a visit to the project site.
