Meeting with the Womens NGO Jeta in Decan
The increased
role of women in economic and political life is regarded an important issue for
Juniks citizens, and as such it is reflected in drafting the MDP. To support
this process, a meeting was held between womens core group from Junik and
representatives of womens NGO Jeta in Decan. It was facilitated by
UN-HABITAT representatives and female municipal officers from Junik.
The main
purpose of the meeting was for the women from Junik to get familiar with the
procedures for establishing an NGO in Junik as well as learn from the experiences
of the Decan organization.
Mrs. Safete
Gacaferri from the NGO Jeta introduced her staff and briefed on the process
of setting up their NGO. The meeting was attended by 6 staff members including
projects coordinator and instructors for sewing, hairdressing, needlework and
handicrafts. There are many ongoing courses and participants had a chance to
see closely the womens course on hairdressing.
Mrs.
Gacaferri briefly mentioned the projects that were implemented with the funds
of different international donors such: US Embassy, USAID, Sida (CHwB), World
Bank etc. Participants visited the place which was a joint project with CHwB
and NGO Jeta promoting handicrafts of women from Decan.
The meeting
gave important instructions on the establishment of the NGO that should/could be
considered and followed by the core group of women from Junik.
The next
meeting will be held on 9th of July, 2010 with the purpose of establishing the
womens NGO in Junik. The content of the meeting will be to agree on the statutes,
name, logo and members of the organization.
