On 10th of August on 2010 at 8 o’clock, in the premises of UN-HABITAT’s Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme, the Mayor of Gjilan/Gnjilane Mr. Qemajl Mustafa and MuSPP’s Chief Technical Advisor, Mrs. Krystyna Galezia, will exchange the agreement of cooperation for the implementation of the Capital Investment Project in Gjilan/Gnjilane. The MuSPP in cooperation with Gjilan/Gnjilane Municipality and the Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology in Skopje, Macedonia (ISIIZ) have inspected educational facilities of Gjilan/Gnjilane for their earthquake resistance.

As a result of the inspection carried out at the end of 2009, it was concluded that reinforcement of the buildings from the concrete category, structurally comply with seismic environment in which they are constructed, while masonry category buildings need radical repair and strengthening. Therefore, considering building characteristics ( building size, student accommodation, structural building typology and economic justifiability), it was decided to do the project on the reinforcement of the Kindergarten “Ardhmeria 2” as a joint project of Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme funded by the Swedish Agency for International Development and Cooperation (Sida) and Municipal Assembly of Gjilan/Gnjilane with its total cost of US Dollars 224,021 which will be co-funded by both parties. The project details are now ready to be tendered, and it is estimated that works will be completed by the end of November 2010.
