Lecture on “Sustainable urban and rural development”

Sustainable management of natural as well as technological and human resources is a must in both urban and rural areas willing to secure a positive development vector. A participatory planning process is a prerequisite for communities to meet the challenge of sustainability, improve the quality of life of the residents and attract the necessary skills and resources to the area. Therefore, one of the most important factors in building and maintaining a healthy natural environment and therefore our well-being -- is the kind of community in which we live. The physical forms of our cities, towns and neighborhoods, our transportation systems, and the way we use energy, material and water resources have profound effects on environmental sustainability, and on our daily lives. There will be an opportunity of exchanging experiences with representatives from Sweden, Turkey and Albania on the way of adressing the above mentioned issues. The lecture will bring together Academia representatives, students, and all relevant experts and key actors which play the biggest role in the ground. The lecture will be held in the National and University Library of Kosova, on 8th of November, 2010, starting at 17:00.
