The opening ceremony for the public review period of the draft Municipal Development Plan of Hani i Elezit,took place on Friday December 17 2010 in the Culture House of Hani i Elezit/General Jankovic. The MDP was drafted by the municipal staff of Hani i Elezit from the Directorate of Urbanism, Cadastre and Environment, supported by the Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme (MuSPP) and Institute of Spatial Planning (ISP) within the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning(MESP).  In his opening speech, the deputy Mayor of Hani i Elezit, Muzafer Dernjani, mentioned the importance of the MDP in the upcoming developments and at the same time expressed his gratitude towards MuSPP. Ishaku Maitumbi, from UN-HABITAT stated that this is a good opportunity for residents of Hani i Elezit/General Jankovic to express their opinions and give their comments, within the participatory process of the MDP. The meeting followed with speeches made by Agim Radoniqi, Director of Department of Spatial Planning, and Luan Nushi, Director of Institute of Spatial Planning within MESP. Nexhmedin Daci, Director of Urbanism in Hani i Elezit/General Jankovic, presented the draft MDP which is a comprehensive, multi-sectoral document that aims to provide clear vision and goals on future spatial development in this territory and at the same time to lead with development processes such as land use, socio-economic development, conservation and development of cultural and natural heritage.  The Municipality of Hani i Elezit/General Jankovic is the second municipality after Junik to take a different in –house approach to drafting of their Municipal Development Plan (MDP), one which is contrary to the practice of outsourcing the plans to commercial companies.  The public review of draft-MDP will be open until 17 February 2011.
