The inauguration ceremony for the capital investment project “Reconstruction of sports field and school yard of secondary school “Kuvendi i Junikut” – in Junik, took place on 16th June 2011. The project was initiated last year during the drafting of the MDP, where the lack of sports-recreation fields was indicated in its and its implementation plan gave the priority to this issue.
The process of the project selection has been transparent and has gone through different participatory processes where different stakeholders such as school pupils, teachers, parents and general public were involved.
Mr. Hasse Ericsson, representative of UN-HABITAT/MuSPP Office in Kosovo, expressed his satisfaction with the implementation of this project which provides sports fields and open space for the school pupils and also for the general public in Junik. He stressed that UN-HABITAT, with the support of Sida, will continue to give support in Junik aiming at improvements of the quality of life for all citizens in Junik. The Mayor of Junik, Mr Agron Kuci, expressed his gratitude for MuSPP and Sida for the implementation of this project, but also for the support that the programme gave during the process of drafting of MDP,a document which will guide the future development of Junik. The inauguration ceremony continued with handball match between two primary schools and folkloric songs and dance which gave joy to the event.
The reconstruction of the school yard included the open multipurpose sports field, an opened amphitheater which can be used as open cinema during summer months as well as leisure area.
The reconstruction of sports field and school yard of secondary school “Kuvendi i Junikut” – was a 50/50 co-funded project by Municipality of Junik and the Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme, Phase2 (MuSPP2) of UN-HABITAT in Kosovo, financed by the Swedish Development Cooperation Agency, Sida.
