Sida delegation visits site area of “Lushta River”, in Mitrovica

Sida delegation visits site area of “Lushta River”, in Mitrovica As part of the Tri-Partite Review Meeting (TPR) with UN-Habitat’s Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme (MuSPP) in Kosovo, the delegation of the Swedish Development and Cooperation Agency (Sida) visited Municipality of Mitrovica on April 26, 2012. Mr. Tomas Nystrom and other representatives of the Sida Office in Sweden were accompanied by Mrs. Maria Melbing, Head of Sida office in Kosovo and Mrs. Krystyna Galezia, Head of UN-Habitat Office in Kosovo, and MuSSP management staff. The delegation had an opportunity to meet with Mr. Avni Kastrati, the Mayor of Mitrovica, and with other municipal officials who directly cooperate with the MuSPP on urban and spatial planning issues as well as in the implementation of capital projects. The Mayor has expressed his gratitude towards MuSSP/UN-Habitat and Sida for the continuous support that was given to the municipality, both in developing the planning documents and implementation of capital investment projects. This meeting was also an occasion for sharing with Sida representatives the views of the municipal authorities on cooperation with MuSPP during the next phase of the programme. The discussion was focused on the issue of further strengthening of the planning sector in the municipality, as an important factor for coordination the planning activities and the development of capital investment project. Several urban projects were brought up by Mr. Kastrati during this meeting for further consideration by the MuSPP and Sida. The visit continued with the sight-seeing walk along the Lushta River and adjacent roundabout, the co-funded capital investment project that was implemented jointly by municipal authorities and MuSSP/UN-Habitat, financed by Sida. During the walk along the project site, the visitors had an opportunity to witness the great impact that the redesign of this location has made to the improvement of the urban environment and the better mobility in this part of the city. Thus, the project has significantly contributed to the creation of a coherent urban space of high quality and social value. This project was inaugurated last November, and it has made a noticeable impact on the improvement of the lives of citizens especially those living in the neighborhood.
