Citizens of Gracanica attend presentation of Vision, work on scenarios continues
The profile and the vision of Gracanica Municipality with long-term development goals and objectives (2012-2023), were presented in front of representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning (MESP), representatives of international and local non-governmental organizations, citizens, businesses, media, and representatives of KFOR on June 7th.
These two phases of the plan were presented by the members of the Municipal Planning Team (MPT) who worked hard in the past few months to complete the first phases of the plan which also serves as a foundation for other three phases of the MDP. The MPT constituted by 4 working groups of different professionals presented the work based on the thematic areas as follows: Infrastructure, transport and public services, environment; natural resources and cultural heritage; economic development and social infrastructure; and population and demography. As stated by the head of planning and urbanism department, Mrs. Nada Brkljac, the work done for these first two phases of the plan was led by the priorities of the citizens of the municipality of Gracanica, as a result of the transparent and inclusive process. The same presentation will be done in two other big villages of Gracanica in order to better reach the audience and give the opportunity to all to be informed and participate in the MDP process.
The Law on Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) requires that all development plans go through a review of their impact on environment. To meet this requirement the SEA process for Gracanicas MDP was initiated in early spring and the consultant, Ana Petrovska, focussed in her presentation on different environmental issues which should be addressed and taken into account in the further stages of the MDP.
The event was opened by deputy mayor Mr. Igor Aritonovic, and Mrs. Krystyna Galezia, Head of UN-Habitat Kosovo, who in their speeches asked the citizens to actively participate in the process of drafting the MDP, and give their contribution for the future development of their municipality.
It is worth emphasizing the very active cooperation between local government of Gracanica and central level Institutions such as Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning (MESP), Ministry of Agriculture and Rural development and other Ministries which are giving a significant contribution to this process as well as added value to the document itself.
The next step is a 2-day workshop for development scenarios to be held in July.
The MDP of Gracanica is being drafted by the municipal officials with the professional support of the Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme (MuSPP) implemented by UN-Habitat and funded by Sida.
