Design workshop in Hani i Elezit/Elez Han

The municipality of Hani i Elezit/Elez Han, together with MuSPP (implemented by UN-Habitat and financed by the Swedish Development Corporation), organized a one day design workshop with the purpose of developing a Capital Investment Project (CIP) for the regulation of the northern access to the primary school in Hani i Elezit. In order to have an inclusive, participatory and transparent planning process, the workshop involved representatives from school students and administration, representatives from the neighborhood, municipal administration, municipal Assembly and UN-Habitat. The workshop took place on the 8th of May 2013, in Hani Elezit Municipal Assembly Hall.

The aim of the workshop was to explain to the participants the process of CIP development, to identify areas for improvement, to present the spatial analysis of the location and finally to have their opinions and ideas. The workshop was also aiming at the overall awareness increase on the participatory approach during urban project development.

Deputy Mayor Mr. Muzafer Dernjani received the participants and mentioned, in his opening remarks, the importance of the workshop proposals as a basic part of project development. He also acknowledged UN-Habitat for the overall support given until now.

During the workshop, moderated by the Director of Urbanism Mr. Miqail Vila, Mr. Sami Stagova, local staff of UN-Habitat, presented the spatial analysis of the location, areas identified for improvement and some similar project examples. Mr. Pren Domgjoni, another UN-Habitat staff, presented UN-Habitat's experience in dealing with CIP development and implementation. Examples were taken from partner municipalities of Ferizaj, Prizren, Peja and some other similar examples. The last presentation was made by Mr. Durim Dernjani, project manager in the MHiE. He shortly described the procedures that were followed during project supervision in the case of implementing the road access towards the primary school in Paldenica/Hani i Elezit.

After the presentations, the workshop proceeded with group work and concluded with presentations and discussion, with focus on the following topics: safety for the students, widening the access road, paving the road and entrance to the schoolyard, rain water channels, sewage, playground features, how to include greenery within the narrow road, etc. In the end all participants were informed that based on these proposals and allocated budget for this project, a project proposal would be drafted and would be publicly discussed for any possible last revision.
