GENDER MAINSTREAMING IN SPATIAL PLANNING

The Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme (MuSPP) financed by the Swedish Development Cooperation and implemented by UN-Habitat together with the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, the Ministry of Local Government Administration, the Agency of Gender Equality within the Office of the Prime Minister, the Association of Kosovo Municipalities and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, organised a workshop on "Gender perspective in the spatial planning process".

The purpose of this workshop was to analyse and address challenges in the spatial planning process, when drafting Municipal Development Plans, Detailed Regulatory Plans, Capital Investment Projects and other projects, and to define the necessary actions and methodologies to be implemented from the perspective of gender and public participation.

During the workshop different topics and cases were presented from MuSPP team such as: Public Participation, Gender in the Planning Process, Municipal Development Plan and its process and Thematic Areas. Also, during the workshop presentations were held on cases from the municipality of Kamez and Elbasan related to gender budgeting and strategy building. Furthermore, representatives from the municipality of Durres joined the group and presented some challenges and field of work related to their database on gender issues and specific information on gender violence.

Participants of the workshop were able to analyse the process of spatial planning as well thematic fields of spatial planning from the angle of gender perspective in spatial planning.  Finally some objectives, strategies and actions were outlined and presented by group representatives. 

The result of the workshop will contribute to the content of the guidelines for gender perspective in spatial planning for further development of Kosovo.

The workshop was held in Durres - Albania, from 3^rd to 6^th of December 2013.
