Since 2005, the Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme (MuSPP) implemented by UN-Habitat and funded by the Swedish Development Cooperation has been supporting twelve Kosovo municipalities  in spatial planning processes as well as project design and implementation.

The programme is also operating in close cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning (MESP) as a key partner at the central level through support on policy and planning law and further inter-institutional dialogue and coordination with municipalities.

Partner municipalities are being supported through in-house project development and local-tailored methodologies and tools, aiming to further enhance the local planning capacities. This system of capacity development support of local municipal professional has proven to be adaptive and effective.

In addition, cooperation with civil society and community representatives is also a key element in the implementation of the programme through MuSPP participatory planning approach in improving liveability in town and cities across Kosovo.

Since MuSPP is approaching to a crucial stage of its implementation, the Programme, in close coordination with its partners, is organizing a seminar with the aim at capturing, discussing and disseminating MuSPP's ten-year experience in capacity development support in Spatial and Environmental Planning, Public Participation in the Planning Process, Housing, Informal Settlements, Waste Management, Urban Design, Project Development and Management, and support to Legal Framework design and implementation.

The objectives of the seminar are:

• Share experiences, achievements and lessons learned in various fields: inclusive spatial planning, design and implementation practices; social cohesion and gender perspective; built local capacities, improved governance and efficiency; inter-institutional and non-governmental cooperation; etc.
• Raise awareness for sustainable development of towns and cities in Kosovo
• Strengthen professional dialogue platform for addressing current and future issues in spatial planning and management and sustainable human settlements development
