The Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme (MuSPP) funded by the Swedish Development Cooperation and implemented by UN-Habitat has worked closely with the Municipality of Gjilan/Gnjilane Housing Task Force on developing a Pilot Municipal Housing Profile (MHP).

The Municipal Housing Profile project provides useful information and analysis of the current housing situation, needs and affordability. It also aims at providing initial strategic orientations and recommendations linking the profile with the legally required preparation of 3-year housing programmes and a step towards development of Municipal Housing Policy and Strategy.

With the completion of the Municipal Housing Profile, a formal handover of the MHP document to the Mayor of Gjilan took place on 22 January 2015 with the ambition of taking concrete steps towards the municipal housing strategy. The Mayor of Gjilan acknowledged the importance of Housing and the associated challenges and opportunities in the housing sector at local level, and sees housing as a priority. With this in mind, the MHP would act as a catalyst for finding housing solutions and help the decision and policy-making in that respect.
