Launching of Capital Investment Project (CIP) training module as first in series of “Training of Trainers”

In the wake of rolling-out of "MuSPP self-sufficiency toolbox", the Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme (MuSPP) organized a 2-day "Training of Trainers" on Managing Capital Investment Projects (CIPs) based on the developed module. The training was held on 28th - 29th of April in Durrës, Albania. The aim of the training is to put participants through a well structured training session with a view to equipping and enabling them to become potential trainers for training   targeted groups Kosovo wide.

Participants of the training were drawn mainly from MuSPP partner municipalities due to their previous experience with MuSPP approach to developing and managing Capital Investment Projects. The other identified participants were from the central governmental level, Pristina municipality and northern Kosovo municipalities. A total number of 16 participants took part in the training comprising of 4 females and 12 males. 

The training started with presentations on the theoretical overview of MuSPP inclusive  approach to developing and managing  CIPs alongside  the  principles and techniques of sustainable urban design, this was followed by an interactive discussion amongst  participants  The presentations were solely based on the Guide on Management of CIPs and MuSPP publication 'Turning Spaces Into Places'.

In order to further familiarise participants with the aforementioned MuSPP approach,  participants  went through  the process of developing a CIP within the context of a 3 part exercise of project identification/selection, project design and project implementation. These exercises were designed   in such a way that participants divided in three groups had the opportunity to identify potential stakeholders, role play the different stakeholders in terms project identification through negotiations as well as apply the principles/techniques of sustainable urban design to develop a concept design; and address issues associated with project implementation.

Finally on the last day of the training participants were able to demonstrate their gained knowledge and skills in training delivery through a simulation exercise to fellow participants.
