Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions continue a step further: Drafting Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEAs) for Spatial Plans session now completed

In the course of the training modules stemming from the "MuSPP self-sufficiency toolbox", and as a follow-up of the training on andragogy, the Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme (MuSPP) launched ToTs sessions on Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEAs) for Spatial Plans, which took place in Durrës - Albania,  from May 19th - 22nd.

The aim of the training was to strengthen the SEA capacities as well as to enhance the integration of environmental and sustainability considerations into spatial planning and decision-making processes in the participants' institutions/ organizations, primarily in municipalities, 'regions' and ultimately in Kosovo; through enhancing respective knowledge as well as their knowledge transfer skills.

The training module provided participants with introduction to legislation, different conceptual and methodological approaches towards drafting environmental assessments of policies, plans, programmes and projects; as well as methods and tools used for integrating SEA with strategic planning and decision-making. The training was practice-oriented, through application of interactive and effective teaching methodologies based on local case studies.

The presentations, theoretical parts of the module, were devised based on the SEA Guidelines, a MuSPP ToolBox publication, whereas the examples and exercises were extracted and adjusted for the purpose of the training from existing SEA reports developed within the context of MuSPP support.

During the training session, the participants had also the opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge and skills gained in training delivery through a simulation exercise to fellow participants.

Participants in the training module as future trainers comprised of officials, representing partner institutions at central and level, such as Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning (MESP)- Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency (KEPA) and Department of Spatial Planning, Construction and Housing (DSPCH); municipalities of Prizren, Pejë/ Peć, Rahovec/ Orahovac, Partesh/ Parteš and North Mitrovicë/ Mitrovica.
