Improving and refurbishing Public Spaces in Mamushë/Mamuša

The Capital Investment Project "Improvement of Public Spaces in Mamushë/Mamuša" was inaugurated on the 9th of June. This project includes upgrading the schoolyard of Mamushë/Mamuša secondary school and refurbishing selected surrounding community parks. The project is a joint investment between the Municipality of Mamushë/Mamuša and the Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme (MuSPP) derived from the recommendations of the Municipal Development Plan. 

The inauguration ceremony was attended by municipal authorities, representatives of the Swedish Embassy in Pristina and the Swedish Development Cooperation from Stockholm, MuSPP/ UN-Habitat, local associations, as well as staff from the school.

Mr. Arif Bütüç the Mayor of Mamushë/Mamuša expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the support MuSPP provided to the Municipality to date as well as the realization of this project, and hopes such cooperation and support will continue in coming years.  

The Head of UN-Habitat Office in Kosovo, Ms. Gwendoline Mennetrier congratulated the municipality and the school for accomplishing this project. She went further by noting that this project is derived from the Municipal Development Plan and developed based on ideas proposed by school pupils and citizens, and is another example of the concept of sustainable schoolyard projects applied by UN-Habitat in other MuSPP partner Municipalities. The sustainable schoolyard projects promote the restoration and preservation the environment, while improving local schoolyards to be used not only by the school pupils but also the community.  

In response, the beneficiaries expressed how the project is contributing to raising awareness among community with regards to the protection of the environment through the rainwater harvesting scheme installed for the schoolyard, as well as the solar panels lights. Furthermore, it is contributing in enhancing the culture of the school pupils in terms of keeping the environment clean and healthy.

The project has been co-funded by the Municipality of Mamushë/Mamuša and MuSPP programme, implemented by UN-Habitat and funded by the Swedish Development Cooperation (Sida).
