The cycle of trainings on ''Public Participation in Spatial Planning'' was successfully concluded in Peja and Prishtina

From 6th to 8th October, 3-day trainings on ''Public Participation in the process of Spatial Planning'' were delivered in parallel in Peja/Peć and Prishtine/Priština. Both trainings were facilitated by the pool of trainers previously identified during the process of "Training of Trainers", as part of the rolling-out of MuSPP Toolbox "My Companion Towards Self-Sufficiency".

Participants were from various sectors, i.e. municipal officials, civil servants of the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning as well as representatives of civil society organizations, such as: the Alpinist Association ''Pashtriku'' from Gjakova/Đakovica, ''Syri i Vizionit'' from Peja/Peć, ''Developing Together'', ''Women for Women International'' and ''Konsumatori'' from Prishtina/Priština, from different age groups and gender, which made training sessions more effective and attractive.

Similar to the previous trainings, the content was diverse with presentations, exercises and interactive discussions between the trainers and participants. Trainers provided participants with relevant information on the importance of public participation, the process and steps of public participation, visioning, gender perspective on spatial planning and its importance in the process of spatial planning.

In order to better and practically understand the whole process, a set of various exercises was organized from identification of stakeholders to be involved in the process of spatial planning, simulation of gender roles by participants, setting priorities based on gender perspective, drafting the common vision declaration to preparation of activities plan and tasks and responsibilities division. Exercise sessions helped participants to communicate and cooperate more easily, but also to exchange and discuss their ideas especially when they were not the same. After the training sessions, certificates of attendance were given to all participants from the region of Peja/Peć (Peje/Peć, Deçan/Dečane, Gjakove/Đakovica and Kline/Klina) and the region of Prishtina (Prishtine/Priština, Skёnderaj/Srbica, Graçanicё/Gračanica, Shtime/Štimlje, Lipjan/Lipljan, and Fushё Kosovё/Kosovo Polje). Certificates were also given to the 6 trainers in recognition of their performance in training delivery. During this ceremony, the Director of Urbanism in Peja/Peć Municipality  took the opportunity to thank UN-Habitat for its great work in support of strengthening local capacities in the field of spatial planning.

The post-training evaluation shows that the  training sessions were highly rated in terms of organization, management and quality.
