UN-HABITAT presents ideas on reorganizing the old city centre of Prizren
UN-HABITAT,
in cooperation with Municipal Assembly of Prizren, presented ideas on upgrading
and improving the old city centre of Prizren following the Area Audit
workshops.
Representatives
of Municipal Assembly of Prizren confirmed that on the near future the
surrounding area will be developed along similar lines to the Shadërvan. They
added that this presentation demonstrated how the findings of the public
consultations using the area audit approach were translated into ideas for a project.
These ideas
are being evolved into a capital works project that will be co-funded by the
Municipality and by UN-HABITAT through the Sida funded MuSPP 2 programme. The project proposal with design and costs,
will be presented to an independent Panel for assessment on 28 September. If
approved then the project will be fully detailed. Once tendered by the Municipality
the project will be implemented in the Spring of 2010. The project will be located in the Historic
Zone in Prizren.
In this
presentation the urban and micro urban suggestions and remarks given by
participants were:
· the improvement of public lighting;
· removal of parking areas from the
city centre;
· organization of sightseeing for
tourists;
· restoration of cultural heritage
sites;
· renovation of Lumbardhi Cinema;
· renovation of Ymer Prizrenis house;
· visual and acoustic signals for
disabled people as well as removal of tall trees that close the view to
