The management of the Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme met with the newly elected mayor of Mitrovica on February 12, 2010 to discuss further cooperation with the municipality.

The meeting provided an opportunity to present an overview of the programme work carried out to date to the newly elected mayor, and to learn of development priorities of the new municipal authorities. The MuSPP team currently supports the municipal offices in drafting two capital projects to be co-funded by the Municipality and MuSPP.

The meeting focused on the implementation of the completed project proposal for the improvement of access areas to”Meto Bajraktari” primary school, and the ongoing design for the functional improvement of the Lushta River path and its links to the urban road network, within the city centre. The entire project and participatory design processes for both projects have been conducted in close cooperation and with direct involvement by the municipal officers and other stakeholder groups. This experience is recognized as a valuable capacity building measure, and is appreciated by all parties involved in project development.

The Mayor expressed his gratitude to MuSPP for the constructive and fruitful support given to the Municipality of Mitrovica, and assured his full commitment to the implementation of the current projects. He has expressed hope for further cooperation with MuSPP in other important issues for the municipality.
