Public Presentation of Draft Profile and Situation Appraisal of Mamusha Municipality

The Municipality of Mamusha, being supported by the Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme in Kosovo (MuSPP), funded by Sida and implemented by UN-HABITAT, is currently drafting their Municipal Development Plan (MDP). With a purpose of having an inclusive, participatory and transparent planning process, Municipality of Mamusha with the MuSPP team facilitated a 2 hour public presentation of the Municipal Profile. The presentation took place on 24 February 2011, in Mamusha Municipal Assembly Hall. The presentation was attended by the Mayor of Mamusha, Directors from municipal directorates, representatives from Mamusha Municipality Planning Team, representatives from the business and farming community, civil society members and students, other international organisations; as well as members of MuSPP. There were approximately 70 participants in the workshop, which can be considered a very high turnout in this rural location.

The aim of this public presentation was to present the information generated and/or gathered during the drafting of the Municipal Profile, which is the first phase of the MDP. This was done through both a powerpoint presentation, and with a series of thematic maps for public review. Citizens had already participated in a number of activities throughout this information gathering process such as the household survey and the Situation Analysis workshop, as well as during various meetings with local NGOs and Associations.

At the opening of the public presentation the Mayor of Mamusha, Mr. Arif Bütüç, stated that “'In the name of Mamusha Municipality and citizens I thank UN-HABITAT for the support given on drafting the plan which is of great importance, as by this we can define how Mamusha will be for 15 – 20 years ahead. Through this plan will be determined organised and planned development and regulation of the municipality”. He encouraged a continued partnership and enthusiasm for the MDP project from the Municipality and the citizens. Also present was Mr. Ishaku Maitumbi (OIC, UN – HABITAT) who explained that this profile is only the first phase of MDP and encouraged all citizens to question and comment on the Profile both at the meeting, and in the future. He also emphasized the purpose and importance of MDP for Mamusha citizens as well as for the municipality itself. The presentation continued with a detailed overview of the Municipal Profile by MPT staff member Ylber Kastrati, followed by questions and discussion.

The number or citizens present, following from the recent high numbers of participants at the Situation Analysis workshop held in Mamusha on 10 February, shows that the civil society has strong interest and enthusiasm for the future development of their municipality, which is a very positive sign for the next phases of the drafting of Mamusha MDP.
