Children, teachers and citizens of Radevo/ Radevë are experiencing a brand new school environment and community facility

The Capital Investment Project (CIP) "Schoolyard and playground in Radevo/ Radevë ", a joint investment of the Municipality of Gračanica/Graçanicë and the Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme (MuSPP), was inaugurated on 30th of March in the village of Radevo/Radevë. This project derived from the Action Plan of the approved Municipal Development Plan (MDP) of Gračanica/Graçanicë, as a tangible translation of planning into concrete improvements and changes in public spaces and environment.

The inauguration, besides representatives of the Municipality and MuSPP, was also attended by the pupils and teachers of the school. During the meeting held on this occasion, the Head of UN-Habitat in Kosovo Mrs. Gwendoline Mennetrier congratulated the new Mayor of Gračanica/Graçanicë on his election and introduced him with MuSSP programme and all the processes and products of the support to Municipality of Gračanica/Graçanicë since the end of 2010. The Mayor of Gračanica/Graçanicë, Mr. Vladeta Kostić, expressed his appreciation for the overall support provided by MuSPP, and in particular for this Capital Investment Project. He also emphasized the need for further support in implementation of the MDP and in drafting of other planning documents required for guiding the development of the municipality.  Mrs. Gwendoline Mennetrier in return  expressed her appreciation and thanks for the work accomplished by the municipality, its staff, its Partners and the community in support of the project in Radevo/ Radevë that provides enhanced facilities for education, recreation, community gathering, accessibility and a preserved environment.

'We are very satisfied with the implemented project', stated the children and teachers of the school on this occasion. They said their learning/teaching indoor environment were improved, the access to the school was easier and safer, and their new schoolyard, which they liked the most, was now enabling them to hold proper sport and summer classes in an enjoyable environment, without any holes on the ground and with a fenced sports field. They stressed that their wishes drawn and written in the joint design workshops and meetings have come true, and that all their needs have been met, including the facilities location in the schoolyard and playground. Furthermore, one could see that the children have learnt the way how to articulate their needs for the future improvements, by drawing a mini-design with which they request from the municipality to have the sports field marked and equipped for handball and tennis activity, so that the children of different ethnicities can play even more and compete together. The Directors of Urbanism and Education promised to examine carefully the request.

The focus of the CIP was to improve the infrastructure of the public functions network within village of Radevo/Radevë, which is one of the most vulnerable, multi-ethnic settlements of the municipality. It contains regulation of schoolyard and park for schoolchildren, regulation of playground on the municipal land adjacent to schoolyard for children of the whole community, construction of fence and retaining wall for the park arrangement and development of infrastructure network of water supply and sewage of the site.

This initiative was co-funded by Gračanica/Graçanicë Municipality and MuSPP, implemented by UN-Habitat with the financial support of the Swedish Development Cooperation.
