Junik Municipal Development Plan is approaching its approval
A two year process of drafting the Municipal Development Plan (MDP) of Junik has received its consent by the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning on May, 2011. The draft-MDP includes a separate chapter, on Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) report, which also received the consent from the department of Environment within MESP.
MDP of Junik is the first example in Kosovo, drafted with a different approach in comparison from the current practice, where the plans are outsourced to the different companies for drafting. The MDP document was drafted by the municipal staff and supported by the MuSPP/UN-HABITAT team in cooperation with Cultural Heritage without Borders (CHwB) and Institute of Spatial Planning within the MESP.
The drafting process of the Juink MDP involved public meetings, consultations and feedback on the quality of the draft versions of the plan from various groups of stakeholders such as the public sector, non-governmental organizations, business community, media and citizens at large.
The decision of the Municipal Assembly to adopt the plan will be in June 2011; if approved, the plan should give the municipality a document which should help guide its future development.
