Inauguration of the project-Lushta River Green Corridor, Mitrovica

The identified project is translation /implementation of strategies and actions provided in the MDP/UDP. Mitrovica MDP includes the concept of “Green Corridors” along the three rivers crossing the urban area. Lushta River is one of the rivers that flow through the city centre, thereby a potential for urban green space and non-motorised transport link is substantial for its links with the rural environment and natural landscape. click here for more information

Municipality of Ferizaj/Urosevac and Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme implemented by UN-HABITAT and financed by Sida has implemented a cofounded Capital Investment Project (CIP) on Flood Reduction. On 30th November 2011, starting at 12:00 am, in Ferizaj/Urosevac, will be organized the inauguration ceremony of the CIP in the neighborhood “Ura Dudit. The synergies of sports and culture were achieved again during a cycling tour in the central part of Kosovo, last Sunday. The promotion of cultural and natural heritage in a healthy way of mobility was never done in such a massive scale with 550 cyclists participating in the event. click here for more information

A group of 19 representatives for Kosovo Municipalities, the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, the Association of Kosovo Municipalities and Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme (MuSPP) of UN-HABITAT visited Swedish municipalities from 12 to 17 of September 2011. The main purpose of the study tour was to get more familiar with the Swedish planning system, and practical implementation of sustainable development principles. The visit was organised by MuSPP funded by Sida, in cooperation with four municipalities, where different presentations and experiences were shared with the guests from Kosovo. click here for more information
Municipality of Prizren presents its final draft of the MDP for the public review

The municipality of Prizren opened the final public presentation of the Municipal Development Plan (MDP) on 12th of August 2011. The document was presented by Mr. Kerem Koramaz, representative of a Turkish and Kosovar consortium. The audience present at the opening of the presentation consisted of representatives of municipality, Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning (MESP), OSCE, ICO, and other international agencies and programs operating in the municipality of Prizren. The importance of the public review during the drafting process was emphasized by the presenter at the beginning of its presentation and it followed with the presentation of all phases of the MDP document. click here for more information

Municipal Assembly of Junik approves the Municipal Development Plan

The Municipal Assembly of Junik has approved the Municipal Development Plan on 29th of July, 2011. The municipal staff of Junik has drafted the MDP document, with the professional support of the Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme (MuSPP) implemented by UN-HABITAT as well as Cultural Heritage without Borders (CHwB) both funded by the Swedish Agency for International Cooperation (Sida). Citizens of Partesh/Partes draft a vision for their new municipality

Municipality of Partesh/Partes conducted a Visioning Workshop to launch drafting of Municipal and Urban Development Plans. The visioning workshop for Partesh was organised jointly by UN-HABITAT/ Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme, Cultural Heritage without Borders (CHwB), Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), with the support of the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning (MESP). A two year process of drafting the Urban Development Plan of Junik has received its consent by the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning on May, 2011. The UN-HABITAT’s Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme and Friedrich-Ebert Stiftung, are organizing a Gender Training focused on gender issues in spatial and urban planning processes and development. The opportunity for training is given to the municipal officers, civil society representatives from all MuSPP municipalities. Presentation of draft strategy and action plan on the prevention and regularization of informal settlements in Kosovo

As a continuation of the discussion on the draft-strategy, the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning (MESP), together with the UN-HABITAT‘s Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme (MuSPP) and Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) organized a series of roundtable debates throughout Kosovo from 16-20 May. With the purpose of having an inclusive, participatory and transparent planning process a public discussion was organized for the Disaster Risk Assessment Management (DRAM) and Transport documents. The presentation took place on 25th of March 2011, in Ferizaj/Urosevac Municipal Assembly Hall. It was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning (Department of Spatial Planning), Ministry of Economic Development - Institute for Seismology, representatives of the neighboring municipality Gjilan/Gnjilane- Directorate of Urbanism and Emergency, Kosovo Police Service - Fire department, OSCE, civil society, local media in Ferizaj/Urosevac as well as MuSPP officials.
